Sita-Haran Bali-Badh

"Sita-Haran Bali-Badh" (locally known as Mukha Bhaona) being staged by the artistes of Samaguri sattra, Majuli -- the World's biggest riverine island at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati on Thursday. The use of masks in theatrical performan ce had been started by Srimanta Sankaradeva, the great Vaishnavite saint of Assam. But over the years the significance of masks has dwindled and the present staging of this play with extensive use of masks, made of guaze muslin and clay over bamboo f ramework, has testified the conscious effort to revive this art form.
