You can't rely on your wit and charm to get you out of a sticky situation. If you've disappointed your relatives and superiors, you must make immediate amends. All the promises in the world won't make a bit of difference; you've got to back up your words with actions. If that means cancelling personal plans and making some financial sacrifices, so be it. You'll feel much better once you take steps to correct this mistake.
